5 ABOVE, RIGHT & FACING PAGE: Some buildings are extensions of nature, as this residence reveals. Essentially, it is lyrically a tree in itself. The four-story, 12-foot ceiling home is held up by steel cables attached to dual massive columns anchored by steel rods 40 feet into the ground. The surrounding woods move in and out of its space as it floats over the edge of Rock Creek Park, only 15 minutes f rom the White House. It is labeled as one of the top Green homes of America. The home has an unmistakable essence of nature and spirituality, as it is held up by the invisibly of gravity—a reflection on the human metaphysical experience. Inspired by a Hindu prayer in Nepal, I designed this home after being inspired by watching a monk meditate under a tree eating a sacred rock in Nepal.
