13 ABOVE: Perfectly formed, concrete planter walls weave through the yard, their subtle wood grain texture and sensual curves always in motion and accentuated by the ever-changing light of day. The sweeping waterwall centerpiece, clad in striated basalt, shimmers continuously and underscores the prize — a twisting, bonsai-like ironwood tree that frames a mountain view while obscuring a neighbors' roofline beyond. FACING PAGE TOP LEFT: Drawing its hue from the site, a pool's interior finish should echo the palee of the site. Here, we chose charcoal with a hint of green — the PebbleSheen Turtle Bay finish — to complement the background. As a result, the color of the water feels at home in the seing, imbuing a sense of harmony. FACING PAGE TOP RIGHT: This crimson-glass overflow spa is the jewel of the yard, coordinating its vivacious color with the owners' love for Talavera pots which are located just beyond. The outdoor fabrics reconcile all the colors, including crimson, canary, and the cerulean of the reflecting pool. FACING PAGE BOT TOM: The foreground, middle ground, and background must all work together. Here, the arching and interlacing site walls embrace their respective feature plantings, lending a sense of orderly rhythm to the otherwise organic arrangement. The complementary colors provide a surface to appreciate the sculptural silhouees of the plants.
