ABOVE: Wisteria tops the pergola and drips with flowers over this backyard family patio in the Chicago area. We allowed the ground to peek
through the irregular pieces of Joliet limestone for a rustic look. The warm glow of the wrapped string lights adds to the romantic charm of this
outdoor gathering space.
FACING PAGE TOP: With peaceful sounds emanating from the rock fountain, this patio area is a lovely place for entertaining and relaxing. We
intentionally created several conversation zones.
FACING PAGE BOT TOM: After spoing this under-utilized outdoor area, I knew we had to give it a second chance. New plants and great outdoor
seating, along with hidden gems like floating bluestone step stones atop the water, make all the difference in this central courtyard. Our work
in this space changed how the house lives, because it improved the view from every vantage point and connected the interior to the exterior.
