ABOVE: For this Chicago-area home, we constructed a terrace from porcelain tiles imported from Italy. The space
extends 50 feet and includes areas for siing, cooking, eating, relaxing, and watching TV and sunsets.
RIGHT: To link the indoors and outdoors at this home, we used the same type of granite in the outdoor cooking
area that is used inside. The person in charge of the grill is never far from guests siing at the surrounding bar. The
entire area looks out to a golf course beyond.
FACING PAGE TOP: The beauty of this award-winning backyard resort that we designed for a family in Chicago is
its straightforward yet high-impact simplicity. It's not flashy, but it has all the amenities you could ever want for
the ultimate staycation, from the grill and bar area to the pool, hot tub, and expansive outdoor lounge. The lush
landscaping completes the picture.
FACING PAGE BOT TOM LEFT: This multi-functional patio was created for empty nesters who wanted a new outdoor
hub for both quiet evenings and entertaining friends. The space serves as an outdoor kitchen, bar, dining area, and
conversation zoneāall located in front of the fireplace, which is the focal point.
FACING PAGE BOT TOM RIGHT: There's a sense of bravado in this Chicago-area outdoor kitchen, which was
designed for high-impact parties and entertaining. Even without guests mingling around, it makes a statement
with the medieval, artisan mood of the central rotisserie as well as the large wood-fired pizza oven.
