247 ABOVE: This waterfall feature proved to be the perfect place for the clients' charming statue in their backyard. Not only does it look lovely, it also creates a peaceful ambience with the sound of the water. RIGHT: We designed the entire backyard expanse of this magnificent estate, which sits on Lake Burton in Georgia, for the owners to beer enjoy the water. We put in stone pathways from the main home to the dock and boathouse, ensuring our new additions complemented the 100-year-old wall seen in the boom photo. We also created an outdoor room with a stone wall and fireplace along with seating areas. Artful layers of foliage and plants add in natural abundance and beauty throughout the entire scene. FACING PAGE: I like to think of flowers and plants like paint on a canvas, carefully layering in colors and textures to optimize the effect. We're also mindful of seasonal varietals—and what the landscaping will look like when the flowers aren't blooming—creating outdoor spaces that make sense for all seasons.
