Details
ABOVE: The architectural design of this modern home in Berkhamsted, England, was designed with similarly colored stonework to the drystone walling throughout
the front and rear gardens. The hardscape elements were illuminated primarily with recessed in-grade fixtures to gently graze across the surfaces of the stonework.
FACING PAGE TOP: For this beautiful scene and slow-moving river on the grounds of a Kentish Garden, the two beds of mature reeds were illuminated with the seldom-
used lighting technique of shorescraping, which was created by Janet Lennox Moyer. This provides a connection between the illuminated woodland at the rear and the
still-calm reflections in the water.
FACING PAGE BOT TOM LEFT: Two mature trees frame an old wrought-iron bridge and provide an illuminated view from the main house. Downlighting for the bridge
and ground plane is from the dormant ash tree on the right. This mini composition within a much larger garden has an intimate feel, with the reflections in the water
providing a different dimension.
FACING PAGE BOT TOM RIGHT: A private and tiny tropical garden tucked away in busy Camberwell, London, has been created to feel like it is inside the house. Dicksonia
antarctica tree ferns were illuminated with only a handful of up lights nestled into the "Mind Your Own Business" ground cover, which was illuminated with several
downlights.
