3 Details ABOVE: Garden terraces and modern parterre in the hills of Los Gatos overlook the Silicon Valley. The "checkerboard" parterre design was created from the brilliant abstraction of a palm tree, and the three-tiered rill fountain that cuts through the terraces acts as a creek for the homeowners' child to picnic nearby. Photography by Marion Brenner FACING PAGE: Zeterre's founder designed this dream garden on 17 Mile Drive in Pebble Beach, when he was 27 years old. At the time, he traveled to France frequently and was influenced by French formal and Provincial styles as well as the gardens at Vaux Le Vicomte.
