ocated on a large lot, this home is positioned so
that there's a soft approach from the street and its
full splendor is reserved for the backyard. Three levels
of outdoor living spaces capitalize on the view, and the
connected guest house makes the entire retreat perfect for
hosting a large family. The home wraps around the pool and
deck, which was built according to a customized terraced
design. The porch sits at the home's level, followed by a
mid-level deck, and finally by the pool deck. Following the
natural grading of the site, the design feels organic and
connected to the house.
The owners, an exceptionally tall couple, requested everything
be built a bit larger than standard size. Inside, the stairs are
wider, counters are taller, and doorways have more width to
them than is standard. Other surprises await, including an
Art Deco-inspired home theater with old-fashioned theater
seats, a reading corner and beautiful bathroom in the master
suite, and a luxurious game room that's ready for a game of
pool or poker.
Remarkable for its design, the home also stands out as it
served as Marc's launch into his Italian projects. His lifelong
connection with Italy—he studied in Florence and travels to
Tuscany each year—is reflected in his use of patina, organic
transitions, and highly detailed craftsmanship. After meeting
and working with the owners of this home, they invited Marc
to Italy where he designed a winery and worked on a number
of projects, expanding his portfolio to include architecture in
the beloved country.
