Lush Ocean and River Views
F
or a couple originally from Greenwich, Connecticut, a baseline for warmth was already set before
the design phase on their home even began. The landscape was preserved as much as possible—
as is standard for all of Marc's designs—but the nature on the site is exceptionally lush and beautiful,
with the river on one side and the ocean on the other.
Two exterior stairways lead to the pagoda-like entrance that makes one feel as if they've stepped into
a private gazebo. The feature is not only architecturally interesting but also communicates the balance
between sophistication and intimacy in the design of the tight-knit family's home. Among the home's
notable features is the guest suite over the garage with its own private entrance.
Inside, a voluminous family space features dark wood beams, transitional windows, and fine millwork.
The ceiling mimics those found in Tuscany, with main beams and purlins used for more visual movement.
As one moves from room to room, noting the curves to walls, the flow of energy is palpable. Outside,
the deck mimics this curved feature.
The home also features a unique office and a custom bunk room with plenty of space for family
members. A screened porch off the master bedroom became the perfect place for the owners to
enjoy thunderstorms. Upon learning of the wife's love for such storms, Marc adjusted the design of the
screened porch to lift the roof for a larger view of the sky. In the husband's office, Marc included space
for a Murphy bed—a request from the owner who had fond memories of such an office arrangement
from his years in the city.
