Rethinking Architecture: From the Inside Out
Southern Sophistication
W
hen the owner of a Savannah, Georgia, home saw a Charleston magazine sitting on her
sister's table with a feature of one of Marc's other homes, she knew she had to hire Camens
Architectural Group for her own residence. Overlooking the Tybee River, this open-concept home
features an elevated entrance with the front door on the second level to account for the flood plain. A
all-wrought iron entry stairway is typical of Savannah architecture. So, too, is the wrought iron gate in
the archway below the stairs, through which one can access the backyard and pool area.
Inside, the home acts as a crisp, sophisticated palette for the owners' lives. Sleek marble finishes in
the kitchen pair with the custom cabinetry and detailed millwork. Small accents like an art niche just
outside the kitchen, portal windows, and, of course, internal and external dormers in the nearly all-white
spaces draw the eye and add layers of textural interest.
Unique pitches in the ceiling above the living room draw the eye and help create a flow of energy and
light that brings life to the space. Luxurious finishes throughout—present even in the bathrooms—give
the home tranquility. A plentitude of windows throughout means that nature is an ever-present part of
the experience of being inside this charming home.
