143 Serenity Inside and Out C risp, clean, and elegant, the home of an art lover was designed and built with her appreciation for art— as well as her husband's height—in mind. Unlike most homes, the owners' artwork was a part of the conceptual design to ensure that it was framed to fit perfectly within the architecture. The result is a seamless integration of structure with décor. With a tight home site and strict criteria for the architecture, capturing the views was a challenge. In the Great Room, trusses create the illusion of a barreled ceiling. Marc worked with the couple to ensure that the husband's view was not obscured by the outermost trusses when standing at the Romeo and Juliet punchouts above the Great Room. Each small balcony sits within an "interior dormer" and aligns perfectly with the dormer windows on the second level. Powerful structural elements continue through the home, with the suggestion of a coffered ceiling in the kitchen, classic column elements where rooms flow into one another, and the exquisite detailing of the ceiling structures in the Great Room. The design is at once distinctive, soft, and elegant. Outside, the pool's waterfall was painstakingly constructed by Marc and the masons, who sent videos to the owners while it was being built to ensure it sounded just right. Everywhere one looks, from the exterior to the most private spaces inside, serenity abounds. . KIAWAH ISLAND, SC
