213 e Blue Lady of the Marsh L ocated on a tidal area site with an inland creek, deep water access, and a stunning vista of both the marsh and the ocean, the home stretches horizontally across the view. The design started as a semi-circular floor plan, but budgetary constraints dictated a more linear floor plan. However, Marc retained some of the round features of the original design to create a distinctive home. The two-story entry, for example, honors this rounder aesthetic, giving it a lighthouse tower-like feel. The entry's floor features a mosaic compass that points south. On Kiawah, homes typically face southwest, but this home sits on a beach where you can see both sunrise and sunset from the back, as you look south toward the ocean. The mosaic nods to the home's atypical orientation on its site. Tile flooring is featured throughout the home—even in the bedrooms—to accommodate life with the family dog. Metal beams were used to create the coffers in the main room, and the structure and trim were integrated into the building process at the same time to ensure structural integrity. A gentle arch joins the living and dining areas with the kitchen, which also features a partial oval-shaped breakfast nook. Outside, the curved back balcony nods to the home's original conceptual designs and keeps the energy flowing on your way to the boardwalk and the water. KIAWAH ISLAND, SC
