Transitional
Transformation
T
he owners of this property enlisted Camens Architectural
Group to comprehensively redo their '90s-era home. Not only
was it aesthetically dated, the floor plan was fractured into multiple
small rooms with minimal sightlines out to the surrounding nature,
including Kiawah River. While the shape of the house was kept
intact, nearly everything else was changed to create a modern,
transitional-style home to fit the owners' lifestyle and the site.
Even when Marc is working on the renovation of an existing
property rather than a new build, his goal is always to relate the
architecture to the people living within it as well as enhance the
experience of the site.
The exterior elevation was transformed in service of both form and
function. The addition of angular gables and wide expanses of glass
modernized the design while capturing the riverside views and
natural light.
Inside, the entire floor plan was reworked to an open layout that
would bring in the light and the views. A center stairwell that
blocked the flow of the space was eliminated and replaced by a
side staircase with glass railings to retain the bright, open effect.
Marc and the owners' collaboration with a talented interior designer
also continued the vision for a comfortably modern coastal
aesthetic.
