348 Rethinking Architecture: From the Inside Out Acknowlegements A volume of this magnitude comes with years of work and the contributions of more people than I could possibly thank on one page. First and foremost, I must thank my family. Architecture requires long hours and complex problem-solving. Without their understanding of those long hours—or the times when I brought my problem-solving home—I wouldn't be where I am today. More thanks than I can express goes to my mentor, the late Norman Jaffe, who taught me to infuse homes with texture, organic elements, and a tangible life force that could only have been inspired by his guidance. Thanks also to Christopher Alexander, whose five-day conference in the hills of New York taught me about ego-less architecture when I was 30 years old. I will also be forever grateful to my professors, mentors, and classmates at Kent State University, where I first learned the ins and outs of architecture. To my incredible staff at Camens Architectural Group, past and present, I couldn't do it without you. Your partnership, creativity, and heart have made the firm the best in the world, in my opinion. To each of my clients, thank you for inviting me into your lives, allowing me to get to know you, your children, and grandchildren, and for spreading the word about my work. It is a joy to visit you in your new homes—even years later—and to call many of you my friends. I must express my gratitude to Brian Carabet, for his unwavering professionalism and patience publishing the book with the most extended process in his business' history. Thanks for hanging in there, Brian. And to Megan Winkler, without whom these words would still be just memories, thank you. We wrote this book together in free-flowing conversations that helped me express my thoughts, design process, and professional history in a way I never have before. No one knows my professional life better than she does. To my trusted colleague, Gina Perez, this book would not have come together without your dedication to getting it done. I appreciate your effort and fortitude in helping make this idea of mine into a reality. Finally, thank you for reading this book. The images capture the spaces beautifully, and the words capture the spirit of each home. I truly hope you enjoyed it. Marc Camens Marc Camens
