Rethinking Architecture: From the Inside Out
Classic Design with
Family in Mind
T
his unique residence was the first home for the newly married couple for whom it was designed.
Their desire for an interesting home and mutual appreciation for beautiful detailing made
them ideal clients for Camens Architectural Group. However, despite having lived with other people
before, neither had any idea what it was like living with each other. With this challenge in mind, Marc
designed a home that is cohesive, sophisticated, and undeniably warm.
The lot was tight with a view of the pond just outside, yet the house never feels cramped. In the living
room, external and internal dormers draw the eye as one gazes at the unique truss beam work above.
The oversized, chevron-shaped wood paneling also draws the eye upward, creating even more lift.
Crafted in stone, the fireplace is flanked by two built-in bookcases.
In the dining room, custom built-in china cabinets give the space a feminine feel that's complemented by
the bolder rectilinear ceilings. A central kitchen island features gas cooking surfaces and an impressive
bronze vent above. There's even a custom-built wine storage room for the couple's extensive collection,
along with a "man cave," and a common office and den area for the homeowners.
Not only did the couple want an interesting home, but they also wanted a home that would be comfortable
for their families. Upstairs, there are separate quarters on each side for their kids and grandkids, as well
as a loft room with dormer windows. A screened living porch provides yet another space for family and
friends to gather when they visit.
