2 INSPIRED KITCKENS & BATHS Our clients had the luxury of living in this Washington, D.C. condo for several years before deciding to renovate. Although the kitchen wasn't dated, the layout was impractical for anyone who cooks a lot. While we didn't increase the footprint, we were able to take advantage of underutilized space and increase the amount of cabinetry. We added shallow-depth pantry cabinets to a wall that was furred out from the adjoining condo and flipped the fridge location with the range. Now, two people can cook without being in each other's way. Function aside, the clients also tasked us to maximize their spectacular views of the Washington Monument and the Potomac River. We rotated the island so guests could be engaged with the kitchen and enjoy the views. We added texture and volume with interesting materials and repeated the square pattern of the metal windows in a dramatic series of mahogany pantry doors. e addition of red leather cabinet doors on the island adds a fun twist. Now, this modern, open-concept kitchen can be enjoyed from the living room, as it integrates seamlessly into its surroundings.
