We worked on the first remodel of this 1950s bungalow and built a galley kitchen with a breakfast nook on the ground floor. It was beautiful,
but the narrow space turned out to be tricky for the growing family. So, for the next round of renovations, we had a new plan: Extend the
house all the way to the edge of the property to create an area where the family could comfortably entertain and gather — while taking
advantage of a side yard that sat largely unused. Our design addressed all the homeowners' needs — more spaciousness, new appliances,
forgiving surfaces (the marble-like countertops and backsplash are durable quartzite), a walk-in pantry, and an island that seats five. We
also added skylights and a long cutout window right above the backsplash to reintroduce natural light and integration with the outdoors.
To give the family plenty of storage, upper cabinets above the cutout are the home for everyday dishware. The glass fronts reflect the rays
streaming in from the skylight.
