8 INSPIRED KITCKENS & BATHS
These two completely different styles of white kitchens have one thing in common:
They were built with frameless European-style cabinets to achieve maximum space
and a more functional, user-friendly design. We achieved a perfect-picture look with
everything meticulously aligned and matched by our craftsmen.
This page: For this contemporary-style kitchen, I translated the designer's vision into real
engineering solutions to create this sleek space. As hard as it may be to believe, this
kitchen is in an older home in Chicago's Gold Coast area. So, we had to make do with a
wood column that couldn't be moved. We hid it within the design by integrating it into the
tall wall cabinetry and floating shelves; there's also a walk-in closet that looks just like
cabinetry. Dark-brown veneered inlays disguise the recessed cabinet pulls and offer an
added layer of elegance while a velvet clearcoat finish ensures everything is durable
and scratch-resistant.
Facing Page: With nods to both traditional and modern style, this transitional kitchen
was inspired by an aesthetic that the homeowners loved. The crisp and clean space is
streamlined with strategically placed appliances punctuating the linear, all-white effect.
To warm up the room, we covered the room's existing columns with veneered panels to
keep a natural and authentic European oak color.
