THIS PAGE: Desert-contemporary style often incorporates earthy hues, natural textures, and stained woods as shown in this kitchen. The scribble light pendant is a nod to the
owner's past career in graphic design. Slatted panels on the refrigerator and freezer columns extend to eight feet, past the appliance doors, for seamless impact and alignment
with the interior doors. The unique flooring is Arizona-mined quartzite, which blends with the Sonoran Desert views of a canyon where this home is located.
FACING PAGE: The style of this kitchen was influenced by the allure of an elegant tuxedo. The black, walnut, and ivory palette is style-driven but also warm and comfortable. Using
symmetry and intentional asymmetry, the space is a composition of graphic shapes starting with the rectangular islands, which are clad in quartzite, along with a floating walnut
eating counter. These dual surfaces allow ample space for multiple prep zones as well as interactive cooking with family. A colorful sculpture by artist Pard Morrison is visible
through the window to the courtyard.
Other features include an indoor ventless hearth oven from Monogram Appliances that allows for easy cooking of pizzas, seafood, and vegetables. Slatted walnut and black
panel accents on the upper cabinets provide a visual separation between the steel-clad hood and the black-painted alder custom cabinets.
