229 We all could use a bit of relaxation in today's busy world. But making time to go to a spa for some much-needed R&R can feel more like a task than an escape. Why not get some of that peace and quiet at home in your own wellness retreat? Bathrooms of any size, from primary ensuites to powder rooms, can double as personal in-house spa moments with all the essentials you (or your guests!) need to find inner peace. Prioritizing a few key features can create a serene oasis of your dreams. When choosing your materials, we recommend opting for wood-like surfaces and natural stones and marble. The use of surfaces that resemble natural elements can help soften a space without losing any subtle or overt design drama. While we are on the topic of nature, be sure to bring the outdoors in. Even if it is just one plant, the use of greenery softens the space while giving it a spa feel. Plus there are many benefits of plants in the home, including air-cleansing effects! Natural light is another component of a bathroom that can really make a big impact, especially with the play of light and shadow. While this won't always be an option, there are creative ways to welcome in the sunlight while maintaining privacy. We love the use of floor-to-ceiling frosted windows. The selection of color can also make such a difference in a bathroom. Choosing whites, natural tones with hues of ivory, light grey, or even soft dark hues can make for a very calming space. Because bright colors often heighten your senses, having more of a muted palette allows for the relaxation of mind, body, and soul. If you are selecting flooring and wall colors or materials, opt for similar tones — or even the same stone or tile material — for both surfaces. The use of like-minded shades will make the space look larger and create a fluidity that plays an integral role in a Zen-like space. Welcome to your spa day, every day!
