Tests on a golf course come in many forms. At 163 yards, the fifth
hole at Salmon Arm Golf Club would seem to be a fairly routine
short tee shot. With a dancing fountain in the blue-green waters
of the pond and towering trees all around, its tranquil nature
elicits a "take a big breath and enjoy the view" response.
This ideal little par 3 requires you to carry your tee shot over the
pond onto the green. Shots hitting just short of the green will stop
and roll back into the hazard; shots struck too firmly will bound
through the green into a beautiful backdrop of fir, spruce, birch,
and cedar trees.
The fifth green is friendly to shots out to the left or right, but
you'll need to be on the correct side of the ridge to have a
chance at a one-putt. The undulating three-level green is
bisected left to right by a ridge, and balls coming to rest on
the wrong side of the ridge will lead to a uniquely challenging
putting experience.
Enjoy the view, but don't take it too easy as this hole has many
small teeth that can bite you.
