It is no overstatement to regard this course as the hidden gem of Alberta, a showcase
of undulating terrain and strategic shot-making. A lot of golfers, even those who have
played courses across the province, still haven't discovered the Crowsnest Pass Golf
and Country Club, which has been ranked a one of the greatest values for your dollar.
One thing is certain: play the course once, and you'll want to come back again.
A few of the holes are visible from the highway as it winds through the southernmost
route from Alberta to British Columbia on the eastern edge of the Canadian Rockies.
These windswept holes, with breathtaking views in every direction, are just a tease,
giving the viewer no real idea of the rest of the course's stunning elevation changes.
This is mountain golf at its finest.
Number 13 is a typical hole for the course. Definitely strategic, it starts with a tee shot
that requires laying up short of the gorge that crosses the fairway and breaks it into
two segments. Long hitters may find resisting the temptation to go for it difficult, but
in this situation, discretion is the better part of valour. Targeting the shot to the right
of a tall fir tree, a lone sentinel set in the centre of the fairway, will give you the best
opportunity of hitting the green in regulation.
Of course, anyone familiar with the area can tell you that the notorious Crowsnest
Pass winds play an active role in every round. With a huge impact on length, the wind
factors into club selection on almost every shot. A challenging course in an incredible
setting, Crowsnest Pass is waiting to be discovered.
