The par-4 15th was given a new design in 2008, during Turner Valley Golf Club's
course renovations, and now incorporates beautiful scenery and a historic setting.
The hole has been designed to make the most of the natural terrain and for golfers
to have a vantage point from which to pause for a moment and take in the stunning
scenery. The surrounding sprawling cattle ranches and rolling foothills provide good
opportunities for wildlife sightings. The fact that the property is home to cougars,
moose, deer, coyotes, and many native bird species points directly to the course's
ongoing commitment to its Audubon Sanctuary Program.
Made challenging by the pond that runs up the left side of the fairway and in front of
the green, the fairway narrows from 35 yards at 235 yards off the tee, to 10 yards as
you approach the green. A safe play is to lay up to 120 yards out for a second shot
to a wide but shallow undulating green. But be careful, as water in front of the green
can prompt a relaxed shot for a birdie or par to turn into bogey or worse. A shot hit
too long will find the golfer having to play a delicate third shot from the native grasses
to a downward sloping green, with water waiting for any ball that is hit with little spin.
Cautious players often choose the bailout area to the green's right that leaves an easy
pitch to the long part of the green. An opportunity for birdie is realistic, but whatever
the score, the hole will be remembered for the beauty it has to offer.
