Gallagher's Canyon Golf & Country Club's layout, a classic mountain course designed
by Bill Robinson, delivers the true Okanagan golf experience. Mature stands of
ponderosa pine, undulating terrain, and the rugged background views for which the
area is famous provide the setting for a memorable game each time out.
The 524-yard sixth hole encapsulates so much of what there is to like about Gallagher's
Canyon. The green on this long par 5 ends on the verge of the canyon itself, offering
a stunning vista with views of Mission Creek, the city nearby, and orchards laid out
on the surrounding hillsides.
Number six is a classic risk/reward hole. The green is reachable in two, but the
margin for error is limited. Fairway bunkers are situated on the left at the midpoint
of the fairway. Approximately 90 yards before the green, a berm of deep fescue
encroaches from the left to constrict the fairway and threatens to absorb the ball,
leaving players with a challenging lie for their approach shot. On the right side of the
fairway, just opposite the berm, is another fairway bunker, so placing tee and second
shots is critical to staying out of trouble. Trees flank the fairway on both sides, and to
the left is out of bounds.
Perched on the edge of the canyon, the green is surrounded by bunkers and features
an elevated bank rounded up off the rear edge in front of the canyon lip. Overshoot
the green, and this is one time that hitting the bunker rates as a positive outcome,
given what lies just beyond it.
