Golden Golf Club is one of the most visually appealing courses in the game. At
2,590 feet above sea level and with Kicking Horse Mountain, the Canadian Rockies,
Mount Seven, Holt Creek, and the mighty Columbia River as design elements,
it's incomparable.
Architect Bill Newis designed the terrific front nine in 1986, and Les Furber added
the back in 1996 to complete the 6,825-yard, par-72 layout. Fittingly, the 11th has
become the club's signature hole. Holt Creek tumbles and gurgles to the right of the
tee boxes and traces that side of the fairway before crossing it in front of the green.
From the elevated tees, you can see the green in the distance just slightly to the right,
the Columbia River straight ahead, and Mount Seven defining the horizon. The gold
tees play 378 yards, the whites 356, and the reds 307.
With the 150-yard marker the target, the ideal tee shot is 210 yards from the whites,
230 from the golds. That leaves a downhill mid- to short-iron shot over Holt Creek
to a green nestled against the mountainside on the right and trees in the back. A
pot bunker two paces from the front and a bunker front-right protect the deceptive,
mounded green.
The 11th is a classic par 4 on a spectacular course. With no out of bounds, and plenty
of wildlife, Golden Golf Club is an unforgettable natural beauty.
