Turner Valley Golf Club is set in the shadow of the majestic Rocky Mountains and
offers a unique experience for golfers. A blend of spectacular views, a great course,
and echoes of the history of the hardworking men and women that built the modern
province of Alberta are showcased here. In 1930, employees of Royalite Oil, the
company responsible for development of the local area's oil reserves, created a sand
green golf course that became the foundation for today's picturesque 6,800-yard,
18-hole layout: a course characterized by its tree-lined fairways and small, well-
protected greens.
Looking down the hill from the par-3 10th hole, you can easily see the original mine
that separated the towns of Turner Valley and Black Diamond. It's a spectacular
setting for a hole that is deceptive in both length and ease of play. Elevation is the key
here, with a 50-foot drop from tee to green. Adding to the complexity of this dramatic
change in elevation are the ever-present winds.
The undulating green can be set up for many challenging pin placements that require
accuracy and correct club selection. Depending on the winds that blow through the
valley from the Rockies, your choice of clubs can vary up to three irons. A par can
generally be a winner on this truly memorable hole.
