At a little over 500 yards, the 18th offers a classic risk/reward
scenario as a finishing hole that can make or break your game
and alter the outcome of a friendly wager. Treed on both sides,
this Les Furber-designed hole drops in elevation from tee to
green. With additional mounding on the right and a 100-yard
waste area on the left, you're challenged to make a solid
tee shot.
Longer hitters will revel in the butterfly sensation in their stomachs
as they set themselves up for a long second shot over water and
a bunker fronting the wide but shallow green. The downhill lie
heightens the importance of making clean contact. For golfers
choosing discretion over valour, lay-up shots are hit to a narrow
landing area where the short final approach shot over the pond
must be struck confidently to avoid a watery grave.
A birdie or par will bring a smile to your face as you look down
the fairway and savour your accomplishment. The clubhouse,
a stunning backdrop as you leave the 18th hole, is your next
destination to recount the ones you missed and the ones that
made your experience so grand.
