"Water" is the watchword on Sandpiper Golf Resort's signature number 15, a
challenging, 486-yard par 5. Shot-making ability is definitely an asset on the hole.
Players must cross no fewer than three natural hazards that bisect the fairway
between tee and green. Added to the streams are two sizeable ponds, one lurking
just past the green on the right with a second running along the left side of the fairway.
A number of bunkers flank the fairway, most notably the footprint of the legendary
Sasquatch also know as Bigfoot, purportedly an ape-like creature that inhabits the
forests of the Pacific Northwest. This bunker that guards the approach to the green
is larger than the green itself and leaves little margin for error. Footprint bunker left,
pond right, and stream crossing in front—controlled placement of the approach
shot is essential. A confined safe landing area to the right front of the green is
one possibility.
Mountains and river valley conspire here to make the wind a constant factor. A
successful result is cause for satisfaction, if not uninhibited celebration.
