Capitalizing on the location's natural assets, Shuswap Lake Estates Golf & Country
Club stands as a stellar example of a residential estates course. Family-run by its
original owners since 1977, the scenic course weaves around elegant residential
developments and an airstrip.
Recently expanded to 6,467 yards, the 18-hole course has much to offer: strategically
placed bunkers, challenging greens, and four beautiful lakes making an impact on
the play of almost half the holes.
Hole number 5 calls for both power and finesse. The elevation on this straight fairway
rises from the tee and falls again toward the green. The hole is narrowly constricted
near the midpoint by the trees that hug the fairway, lining both sides. Get past the
constriction and the real test begins.
The green on number 5 allows no margin for error. Water guards the front of the green
with little or no landing area between it and the edge of the green. Tight on the left
rear side, a bunker awaits any shots that go long. Err to the right and the edge of
the green falls off sharply into a deep treed hollow. This is one approach shot you
definitely want to get right.
Of course, what makes the hole tough also makes it beautiful and a lot of fun to play.
