From the moment you arrive at Black Mountain Golf Club in
Kelowna, you can clearly see that it is a unique facility. With the
male staff wearing Loudmouth golf pants and the female staff
wearing short shorts, Black Mountain is all about providing a fun
and relaxed golf experience. The Wayne Carleton design on this
scenic 6,394-yard course epitomizes the club's attitude toward
the game, as the layout is fun to play every step of the way. The
first hole gets the party started.
Set in the mountains a half hour from Big White Ski Resort, Black
Mountain is a visual delight. Four tee boxes set up the beautiful
par 4 from 234 yards back to 363 yards. The tees are elevated
and the landing area generous, allowing for plenty of options off
the tee to get the round going. A large fairway bunker on the left
encourages ideal tee shots down the right center.
The green is above the fairway, making approach shots about
a club and a half longer than the yardage. The large putting
surface is two-tiered, protected by two bunkers on the left and
one on the back right. With a false front, shots coming up a little
short will roll back off. It's all part of the fun.
