57 CRoWN ISLE Resort & Golf Community PAR 4 425 yARDS Courtenay, BC 888.338.8439 www.crownisle.com Crown Isle Resort & Golf Community features a Graham Cooke and Associates- designed course as the jewel of a master-planned residential community. Eleven on-course lakes and a thoughtful combination of natural and planted vegetation are backed by panoramic views in any direction, including a striking prospect of the Comox Glacier. One of only nine courses in British Columbia that is a certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, Crown Isle is home to various birds, including resident bald eagles that can be seen throughout the year, as well as numerous migratory species that return to the lakes as primary nesting areas. The par-4 third is an ideal hole to showcase the skills of the long hitter but beware the risks if a shot is slightly off target. At 425 yards, the dogleg left has water from tee to green along the right side and out of bounds down the left. Three bunkers, two on the left and one on the right, mark the bend in the fairway, but a well-placed tee shot will find ample landing room between the bunkers and a 180-yard shot to a kidney- shaped green. If the winds are blowing, the golfer must account for the gusts because the three bunkers that guard the green will easily swallow any errant shot. The pin position will require shot-making at its best. If situated at the front, the green provides a fairly level approach. Further back, however, the pin can be located on the upper shelf of the two-tiered green; balls that do not rest on the level portion will roll off the sides, making for a somewhat difficult return putt to the elevated pin placement. 3 Photograph by Crown Isle Resort & Golf Community
