135 We believe that every project provides a conduit for the exploration of human experience as it relates to the built environment and the emotional response to a specific space, and the Broadview Residence is no exception. Located on a busy street in north Seattle, the home was designed to create a private and relaxing oasis for the homeowner. Our primary goal was to create a home that complemented the scale and fabric of the existing neighborhood while providing a private, south- facing courtyard that takes full advantage of natural light and extends the interior living space. The home is designed with strategically placed public spaces, including a formal entry courtyard arranged near the street, acting as a buffer for the remainder of the home. Utilizing the natural topography allowed us the opportunity to explore spatial volumes by varying ceiling and floor heights. A subdued interior material palette aids in creating the peaceful environment. Stained cedar walls cleverly conceal the home's storage areas. A rooftop deck is positioned at the highest point on the site, maximizing western views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains.
