Located in the exclusive high-end neighborhood of Hunts Point, on one of the last undeveloped lots in the neighborhood, this home required a cre-
ative approach to meet specific zoning requirements. Every jurisdiction has unique codes related to lot coverage and building heights, and this project
was no exception. The home and landscaping have been carved into the site so that it responds to the natural topography. Utilizing curved roofs to
maximize the volume within the side setbacks, the roofs and wood ceilings create a comfortable enclosure inside the home. Curved glulam beams
beautifully frame the custom lighting within. Full-height windows bring in light and views of Lake Washington, and large sliding doors provide connec-
tion between interior and exterior spaces. The use of steel, stone, and stucco blend in with the natural surroundings and sooth the senses, capturing
the visual and tactile properties of the materials. The interior design—thanks to senior interior designer Kathy Blethen—complements the materials
without overpowering the spaces. Our integration of the pool and landscape acknowledges the topography and make seamless transitions between
the interior and exterior, no matter what the day brings.
