CONTEMPORARY RANCH HOUSE
Danville, CA
"We have just two big dreams: We'd like to be able to see the majesty of Mount Diablo sunrises from our bed and want all the rooms to have lots of
glass that will connect the interior to the outside. And our dogs are Labradors, so they want a swimming pool."
Located in a leafy, walkable neighborhood of pre-war-era California ranch homes, our clients decided to stay in place and support their long-term
community relationships by removing their outdated 1940s home and redeveloping the site to preserve several mature oaks, a sycamore, and large
redwood trees. The result is a wonderful, new, contemporary-style ranch home with a relaxed beauty that hides a design and technology fusion.
The two-story home, over a street-level below-grade garage, steps up the sloping site and allows for connected interior-exterior spaces on every
side of the home, including the second-floor owner's suite level that is partly set into the slope. A private central courtyard with pool, cabana, and
covered fireplace patio seamlessly connects to the main house with bluestone pavers that are radiantly warmed by tubing with solar-heated water.
Building materials and methods of construction were green-sourced, recycled, and environmentally healthy, earning the project the highest LEED
Platinum certification.
