4 Inspired West Coast Homes Situated at the top of the hill of Happy Valley, this traditional Oregon residence has breathtaking panoramic views of Portland. My team and I were given carte blanche to design a masterful home filled with all the charm of Italy. The home was built by a Street of Dreams Builder and was already 10 years old when we began our work. In the master suite, the clients wanted a cheerful room with tones of yellow. As a certified color expert, I leveraged my knowledge of color psychology to create a palette that not only brightens and warms the Northwest's winter days but also fosters a sense of comfort. Motorized blackout silk draperies framed the unmatched views of Mount St. Helens and the city lights, while radiant heated floors on Picasso travertine added warmth underfoot for chilly mornings. Appealing to the family's heritage, I designed the room with a Mediterranean flair. From the meticulously hand- painted ceiling replicating Italian tiles to the Jerusalem stone in the steam shower, the master suite delivers on character. Each room throughout the house was a work of art completely custom in every detail. When the couple asked me to create extraordinary guest spaces, I came up with some fantasy concepts which include the Lodge, Bahama, and Spa rooms. These rooms have proven to be timeless, as guests of all ages love staying there. I always use a very personal approach, even in guest spaces. The lower-level family room area, which was remodeled for the empty nesters growing family, is complete with rich, durable hickory hardwood floors and stylish interior masonry that adds character to the intimate wine cellar. A space was created for games where you can challenge loved ones to chess while enjoying the twinkling city lights below. Additionally, a home gym was added, which takes advantage of the Portland vistas. To arrive at the right style, I got to know the homeowners and examined their daily lives. I asked myself what would make them say, "I love living here." I almost always focus on shapes and textures, intentionally mixing masculine with feminine elements. In every case, I focus on lighting, color, and scale. Getting color right is critical by itself. I don't like rooms that are too perfect; it is important that they feel comfortable, approachable, and interesting. I have a keen eye for detail and love collaborating with local craftsmen to transform homes and lives. I create timeless designs that increase a home's value.
