Inspired Modern Living
Situated below a dead-end street in the Tustin Foothills, this property offers a
degree of peace and seclusion that's rare in Orange County. The owners were
drawn to the site for its views but weren't satisfied with the layout of the existing
house. Studio LeMaster was engaged to re-envision the structure and craft a home
that embodies a modern lifestyle.
The design centers around the addition of a two-story volume into the existing
single-story structure, thus capturing the views and tying together the separate
wings of the house. The massing is carved and articulated to create sheltered
outdoor spaces and achieve a cohesive design between old and new volumes.
Wood slats were added to the façade in addition to a series of metal fins to provide
shading and add definition to the architecture. The house is designed to look
intentional yet integrated into the landscape with its palette of natural materials
that softens the modern lines.
Inside, the floorplan pinwheels off the double-height entry space that houses a
staircase. Every bit of floor space is carefully tailored to the owners' lifestyle and
every detail mirrors their personal design aesthetic.
