Inspired Modern Living
For clients who desired a modern residence with clean lines and state-of-the-
art features, this home in Sanford, North Carolina, beautifully goes beyond their
dreams. The axis of the main house is oriented along the east-west direction to
allow the main living spaces to take advantage of the southern exposure, inviting
natural light inside. Large overhangs shade the southern windows from the high
summer sun, but still allow low winter sunlight to enter. The centrally located
pool forms a stunning central courtyard — a destination place between the
main house and the guest house for gathering, dining, swimming, relaxing, and
entertaining.
A vertical linear pattern of windows and doors acts as picture frames for the
outdoor elements while providing a sharp contrast to the strong horizontal
lines of the flat roofs. The goal was to emphasize and invite the pool, patio, and
outdoor activities into the home.
The expansive outdoor seating area features large skylights that illuminate the
outdoor dining and kitchen areas and are also positioned to bring natural light
back into the main living spaces. A large glass door unit is pocketed in the walls,
creating a seamless spatial flow from the indoors to the outdoors.
