Architect Travis Price calls this residence: Minimalism, Passive Solar Energy, and the Endless Delights of the "Seasons in Shadows." The steel
butterfly home is tucked between shared walls on an urban historic site in Georgetown, Washington D.C. "She shimmers like tree leaves when the
sun flickers with the seasons," says Travis. "Minimalism plays with passive solar heating in winter and soft fin shades cooling in summer."
The design's simple eco-modernity uses 12-foot-high glazing with outdoor stainless-steel fins that shade all summer long and shimmer in the
fall and spring. As winter pounces, the low south sun beams past under and through the passive solar heat fins into the south side and front of
house — all the way to the rear. The backyard contains a captured garden, a small pool, and a hidden garage for the outdoor seasons' enjoyment.
Inside, shadows dance up the stainless-steel stairway with the glitter of punctured sun. It's minimalism under the seasons of the sun; a townhouse
that never seems small or without nature.
