Inspired Modern Living
Located in the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts, this house is beautifully surrounded by tall trees. But what you may not realize at first glance is that this
project actually started as a renovation to a small, cabin-like house. As the project developed, the new additions — a screen porch and a separate garage structure on
each end — were incorporated into an expanded main footprint to create a larger family home with a more seamless transition to the additions.
Elements of the existing house, such as some wood timber framing, were kept as part of the new renovation while a new metal roof unifies the entire composition.
The expanded entry deck provides access into the house and connects with the garage through a covered porch. The main part of the house consists of a large open
living area and dining space with a modern kitchen separating the dining area with a large island. The living area has a large glass wall that maximizes the view. Green
features were prioritized and as much of the site as possible was left undisturbed and restored to natural growth to preserve the surrounding woodlands.
