Inspired Modern Living
The clear inspiration for this home started with its lovely, bucolic site — a mostly flat, 15-acre parcel just off the beaten path in Carbondale,
Colorado. The beautiful views and neighboring bodies of water along with the pre-existing flatwork slab all determined the setting, massing,
and feel of the single-story, rambling home with simple yet striking gables joined by flat roofs to accentuate the primary spaces. Extended
outdoor covered areas and wings reach out into the landscape.
Durable materials and minimal maintenance were also at the forefront of the design aesthetic, resulting in a restrained palette. The stone is
used sparingly and as a tool to draw occupants to the covered exterior spaces. Stained cedar ties the various wings of the building together.
Just like the exterior, the interior design by Barbara Glass reflects the homeowners' passion for design. She combined the various forces of the
architecture, the site, and the client's aesthetic to set a warmly modern, sophisticated mood. The calming, neutral palette is interspersed by
moments of color and wood tones that resonate with the surrounding nature.
