"In the daylight we see,
In the darkness we feel."
—Jim Ply
Lighting the front door with a light level slightly brighter than the
surrounding landscape welcomes unfamiliar guests. A courtyard
lies behind the wooden gate and wall sconces. Multi-trunked olive
trees flank the arrival. The illumination of the rhythmic arches in this
courtyard stands in contrast to the darkened exterior wall above.
Soft downlighting beautifies the courtyard and the illumination of the
courtyard perimeter walls makes us feel safe and present in the space.
Partially opened doors reveal a hint of interest into the additional
spaces in the backyard, drawing the viewer's eye and attention.
