Modern Desert Homes
Large expanses of glass embrace the view in the open floor plan of the living, dining, and kitchen areas, while ceiling details help delineate the separate
functions. The perforated metal stair descends to a lower-level family room and children's bedrooms. Light passing through the perforations animates
the veneer plywood wall with the changing light of the day.
A rift-sawn oak wood veneer wall extends along the kitchen and hides cabinets, doors, and appliances. The irregular shape of the soapstone countertops
is meant to evoke the rock outcroppings of the site and to soften the angular lines of the house.
The primary bathroom has a continuous concrete countertop. It morphs into a shower bench at mid-span. The tile is Neolith Arctic White, with mirrors by
Robern and a custom concrete tub fabricated by Fine Concrete. The Velux Longlight skylight extends across the length of the bridge and illuminates the
primary bath and main living spaces while reinforcing the home's linear nature.
