One of our collective missions at KA DesignWorks is to fully understand and incorporate clients' wants, needs, and visions into the design process. The hallmark of this process is an exceptional ability to help clients visualize the design at its earliest stages. As form follows function, I start the process with fl oor plan sketches that incorporate the client's program in a spatial organization while considering the site and views. Upon approval of these sketches, the design is imported into BIM/ CAD software and quickly developed into a three-dimensional model — complete with walls, roofs, fenestration, and materials, all in the appropriate aesthetic. This model includes furnishings, fi nishes, and built-ins, which are quickly inserted as placeholders that allow a client to easily understand the design intent. Therefore, the client is seeing a complete representation of their future home in the specifi c context of the actual site very early in the schematic design phase. With the advancement of technology in the industry, a vast majority of architects are incorporating visualization into the early steps of the design process. While it is common practice to represent the exterior, focusing on the interior is often overlooked. Yet it is just as important — perhaps even more so — to envision what the space feels like and looks like from the inside out. This helps to better represent the experience of actually living inside the proposed home. When visualization is done right and integrated into the design process, it shouldn't be time-consuming or costly. Readily available technologies that are easily accessible to all design professionals provide the opportunity to model and experiment with numerous design options. This process provides clients with a superior comfort level and confi dence in the architectural and interior design long before any shovels hit the ground. It's one of the reasons we've built a reputation for superior design and excellent customer service at our award-winning fi rm. Early and frequent visualization helps us push the envelope of mountain modern design through Colorado — and beyond — while exceeding the hopes and dreams of our clients.
