Masters of Landscape Lighting
ABOVE: This elegant, domed gazebo was rebuilt after being destroyed by a powerful cyclone in 1987.
Nestled within a secluded woodland and set along the river seen in the adjacent bridge view, it is reached
via a long, winding path. The gazebo serves as a natural pause and quiet resting point before continuing
deeper into the garden.
RIGHT: Two mature trees frame an old wrought-iron bridge, creating a softly illuminated view from the
main house. Downlighting for the bridge and surrounding ground plane is provided from the dormant ash
tree on the right. Within the context of the larger garden, this small composition feels intimate, with water
reflections adding a subtle, atmospheric dimension.
FACING PAGE: Positioned at the center of a circular driveway on a country estate, this formal garden is
enhanced by a lighting design that emphasises its architectural elegance. Perimeter uplighting along a
row of Italian cypress accentuates their vertical rhythm, guiding the eye on both arrival and departure,
while subtle pathway lighting reinforces the garden's symmetry and balance, ensuring safety without
sacrificing visual impact after dark.
