275 Neil Parslow is a landscape lighting designer with over 20 years' experience delivering thoughtful lighting solutions across the UK and internationally. His work spans projects of all scales, combining clear design intent with technical precision to enhance landscapes, architecture, and the user experience. Guided by a philosophy of clarity, restraint, and purpose, Neil approaches each project by understanding how people move through a space, where they pause, and how lighting can quietly support these moments. Light defines form, establishes hierarchy, and guides perception, while shadow and darkness remain essential, allowing landscapes and architecture to retain depth and authenticity. His practice is shaped by long-standing collaboration with leading lighting designers from the United States, and is underpinned by a strong understanding of system design, specification, and installation. He is also a regular contributor to industry trade publications. Neil holds professional qualifications as an NPTC CS38-certified tree climber and an NVQ Level 3 Electrician to BS 7671, and is a member of the Professional Garden Consultants Association (MPGCA). He is an active mentor for the International Landscape Lighting Institute (ILLI), sharing knowledge and experience to support emerging designers and advance the art form of landscape lighting. Neil is the founder and lead designer of Light Visuals Ltd., a London-based manufacturer of high- quality modular landscape and architectural lighting products, known for numerous UK and international firsts. All products are designed and manufactured in England, with sustainability, durability, and long-term performance at their core. Driven by the belief that everyone should enjoy good lighting, Neil delivers carefully composed, cohesive solutions, using light not to dominate a space, but to reveal elements from the darkness. ILILNEIL PARSLOW DESIGN LONDON, UK LEFT: A cluster of pencil-thin Italian cypress rises to roughly 15 feet yet remains visually dwarfed by the majestic redwood. Discreet downlights placed high in the canopy gently graze the redwood's soft bark, revealing the deep creases and texture of the root flare. Select uplights merge with the downlighting along the trunk, subtly filling the canopy while preserving the tree's natural form. FACING PAGE: Water is the most challenging element to illuminate, yet it can produce striking effects when approached correctly. In this fountain, fixtures are placed directly beneath the cascading water at each tiered bowl. As the water becomes aerated, the light strikes the individual droplets, creating illumination through reflection and refraction, bringing the moving water to life. PREVIOUS PAGES: The gently illuminated globe sculpture sits quietly at the heart of this intimate garden, anchoring the space. The vivid green fronds of the tree ferns reach outward, their careful uplighting briefly leading the eye astray before their gentle rhythm and diagonal sweep draw it back again, returning attention to the sculpture at the center.
