100 Masters of Landscape Lighting FACING PAGE: In this gated, beachfront community along Florida's 30A corridor, lighting was conceived as a shared language rather than an individual statement. New brass uplights were introduced to the palms lining the central drive, creating a cohesive rhythm that enhances orientation, safety, and arrival. Selective use of color allows the neighborhood to mark seasonal moments and civic holidays, while the underlying design remains consistent, restrained, and timeless. Photography by Jon Workman IMPACT LIGHTSCAPES & OUTDOOR AUDIO FREEPORT, FL Jonathan Workman is a landscape lighting designer whose work centers on creating outdoor environments that feel natural, balanced, and emotionally inviting. As the founder of Impact Lightscapes & Outdoor Audio, he approaches lighting as a subtle design language, one that enhances landscape form, texture, and movement while preserving the integrity of darkness. Jonathan's landscape work is guided by restraint and observation. Rather than overpowering outdoor spaces with brightness, he focuses on layered illumination that reveals plant material, defines circulation, and establishes a sense of comfort and safety. Trees, palms, gardens, and water features are treated as living elements, illuminated in a way that respects their natural character and seasonal change. His projects range from private residential landscapes to community-scale environments, coastal properties, and hospitality settings. Jonathan is particularly known for his disciplined use of color, introducing it selectively to support atmosphere, celebration, or shared identity without allowing it to dominate the landscape. Whether designing permanent installations or event-driven lighting that becomes a lasting feature, his work emphasizes longevity and emotional response. Across every project, Jonathan seeks to create landscapes that feel welcoming after dark — spaces where people can gather, linger, and connect. His belief is simple: When lighting feels effortless and unnoticeable, the landscape itself becomes the experience. Scan to view more projects by Impact Lightscapes
