179 Long before Sandy Beach Lighting & Design Co. existed, Andrew "Andy" Schwindler was shaping the outdoor living industry itself, designing custom environments that helped establish the playbook many builders still follow today. His work was known for its clarity of vision, craftsmanship, and an intuitive understanding of how people actually live in and move through outdoor space. Early on, Andy created an outdoor environment of his own — intended to be lived in, shared, and used for both personal life and professional gatherings. When daylight faded, the absence of lighting was impossible to ignore. The structure and materials were right. But without illumination, the space lost its ability to hold people after dark. That absence proved instructive. It fundamentally changed how Andy understood outdoor environments and what it meant to truly complete a space. From then on, he became intent on ensuring clients could fully experience their spaces at night. He actively sought out lighting professionals — designers who treated illumination as a craft rather than an add-on — but found that true specialization was rare. When those partnerships proved elusive, Andy began bringing lighting design in- house. What started as a practical solution quickly revealed itself as a discipline, ILILSANDY BEACH LIGHTING & DESIGN LAFAYETTE, IN one that demanded far more nuance, technical understanding, and restraint than he had anticipated. Over years of practice, study, and refinement, lighting became not simply a skill, but a deeply respected craft. The work resonated, and Andy thrived within it. Lighting revealed itself as a language, capable of shaping emotion, guiding movement, and transforming how a space is experienced without ever calling attention to itself. That philosophy ultimately became the foundation of Sandy Beach Lighting & Design Co. Today, the studio operates with a singular focus. Every project begins by listening — to the land, the architecture, and the way people move through space. Andy's approach is informed by formal training, elite mentorship, and continual education as a nationally accredited lighting designer and industry educator. But beyond that, it's guided by a belief that light is emotional before it is technical, and that the most powerful designs are often the quietest ones. What began as an early lesson evolved into a lifelong discipline. Today, lighting is not simply what the studio designs — it's how atmosphere is created, memory is shaped, and spaces are brought fully to life. Sandy Beach Lighting & Design Co.
