66 Masters of Landscape Lighting Well Lit is a premier landscape lighting design and installation firm dedicated to enhancing residential environments through expert illumination solutions. With a strong commitment to customer satisfaction and deep industry knowledge, Well Lit helps homeowners showcase their properties at their very best through thoughtful, high-quality lighting design and execution. At the heart of Well Lit's leadership is Anthony Lato, a Master Electrician whose journey in the landscape lighting industry began in his teens working in his family's landscape business in Connecticut. Later, he wanted to combine his family's expertise with his electrical skills. In 2003, he enrolled at The Landscape Lighting Institute at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, studying with world-renowned landscape lighting designer Janet Lennox Moyer. Anthony's extensive experience includes collaborations with respected designers and teaching and lecturing roles at the International Landscape Lighting Institute (iLLI). Anthony's portfolio spans numerous bespoke, residential projects, including notable installations in the Bahamas, Mustique, Antigua, Westchester County, Connecticut, Rhode Island, the Hamptons, and Florida. All projects start with a client interview, tailoring the lighting to each customer's wishes as well as the site. Anthony's expertise and his design influence have informed and guided many manufacturer product innovations — and he is widely recognized in the field for his design leadership and technical proficiency. Well Lit continues to grow and has evolved into a family business, with Anthony's sons Anthony and Christopher blending seasoned professional insight with personalized service to create lighting solutions that elevate outdoor spaces, enrich aesthetic appeal, and enhance everyday enjoyment. Anthony has compared his lighting to a Broadway play. "At a Broadway play, you have your star actor(s) along with the supporting actors. Lighting is similar, where you have your focal point, a featured tree or a sculpture, surrounded by a supporting landscape softly lit. Together, this creates a magical space." WELL LIT, LLC NORWALK, CT TOP: Showcasing the transformative power of intentional landscape lighting, at the hands-on iLLi training property in Troy, New York, these reflections of illuminated trees ripple across the water. This composition was created by attendees under the guidance of Anthony Lato and other mentors. Photography by George Gruel BOTTOM: Leadership from iLLi traveled to Tokamachi, Japan, to teach the art of landscape lighting, creating a permanent installation in a town park as a gift from a prominent lighting manufacturer. This image captures softly illuminated trees and the up lit modern enclosure of a traditional hot spring, where visitors soak their feet while appreciating the beauty of the setting — an example of light enhancing both place and experience. Together, they guided students in shaping this beautifully layered lighting scene, demonstrating how restraint, balance, and intention can transform a space. Photography by Greg Matthews
