86 Masters of Landscape Lighting BLUE ISLAND INC. KEY WEST, FL Blue Island Landscape Lighting and Irrigation has been transforming outdoor spaces for more than two decades across the Florida Keys, the Caribbean, and the Eastern United States. Guided by owner Kelsey Lindenberger, the firm's mission is to enhance the beauty, functionality, and safety of every landscape through innovative, sustainable, and enduring design. As members of the International Landscape Lighting Institute, Kelsey and her team bring artistry, precision, and a deep respect for craft to every project. To them, lighting is more than illumination — it's the art of creating mood, drama, and connection. Each installation is an opportunity to transform how people experience their homes and rediscover the natural beauty around them. Kelsey's passion for design is rooted in her upbringing in the construction world, where she learned the value of precision and hard work from her father, a general contractor. After mastering every aspect of Blue Island's business, she became its owner, continuing the company's legacy of excellence. Trained under renowned lighting designer Jim Ply, Kelsey now blends technical expertise with creative vision, crafting outdoor environments that come alive after dark while inspiring others to see lighting as both a science and an art. ABOVE: Painting with light is always the goal, and this award-winning historic home offers a perfect example of how thoughtful illumination can transform a property. Beginning in the front yard, a delicate balance of narrow-beam accents and warm washes highlights key architectural and landscape features, from the statue of a girl and her dog nestled among tropical foliage to the timeless fountain anchoring the courtyard. The front yard lighting maintains a contemporary elegance while preserving the charm and authenticity of Old Town Key West, beautifully visible from historic Whitehead Street. FACING PAGE: As you move toward the back, the design transitions to a more modern aesthetic, reflected in the clean coping lines and the inviting glow of a hidden hot tub — an intimate oasis surrounded by a lush jungle of tropical foliage. Layered uplighting and soft moonlighting bring depth, warmth, and dimension throughout, enhancing both beauty and functionality. Every fixture was carefully selected to complement the home's textures and historic character. The lighting design not only brings the home to life after dark but also played a key role in its distinguished award recognition. Photography by Kelsey Lindenberger
