Part Two: The Braverman Family 85
Above: Reissued marriage certificate.
Volsun Iosif Shlemovich, born in 1924,
place of birth - Ukrainian Republic,
Kamenets-Podolsk Region, and
Braverman Lyubov Lvovna, born 1929,
place of birth - Russian Federation,
Moscow Region, City of Pavlovo-Posad,
entered into legal marriage, which
was registered on January 26, 1951.
Upon registration - the marriage the
following last names were taken: huband
- Volsun; wife - Volsun. Place of
registration - Dzerzhinskyi District
Registry Office of the City of Moscow.
Date - May 19, 1981.
Luckily Lyubov's oldest sister Klara had
some relatives who lived in a large apartment
building that had a big room available for such
purposes. She quickly talked to her relatives
and the building manager to get a permit to
have the wedding festivities there.
Another problem was notifying the guests. It
was too late to send invitations by mail. No one
had telephones at the time. So family members
divided the names on the guest list, and each
family member personally went to the homes of
guests to invite them.
The next day, Iosif went to the jewelry store to
buy wedding rings. Iosif still wears the one he
purchased that day. The other ring is still on
Lyubov's finger, buried with her when she died
many years and many miles om the happy
occasion of their wedding.
Then the couple went to the celebrated Bolshoi
Theater to see the Verdi opera La Traviata. To
this day, Iosif loves these operas because they
remind him of his beautiful Lyubov and their
magical courtship.
